Corrosion management specialist Metacor has announced the arrival of one of Scotland's most experienced oil and gas sector directors to its board, as it builds for further international growth.
Metacor welcomes former BIS/Salamis chief executive Ian Nickerson as non-executive director, as it targets major expansion in the Americas and South East Asia, following consistent growth throughout the North Sea.
Metacor's external corrosion management systems enable its clients to meet industry safety and integrity best practice standards through the preparation of risk-based coatings strategies and plans.
The firm, headquartered in Aberdeen, also provides a coatings consultancy service and undertakes coatings surveys and third party coatings/corrosion inspection.
Ian Nickerson is a former director and vice chairman of the Offshore Contractors' Association who has nearly 30 years' experience in the engineering and energy sectors.
He spent a decade as chief executive of BIS Industrial Services Ltd, stepping down from his role at the close of 2008 following its best year-to-date, during which it posted annual turnover of £230million, and is also a former director of Cape Industrial Services.
"This is a very exciting time to be joining Metacor, as the company consolidates its leading North Sea market position and targets continued growth through ambitious expansion overseas," said Nickerson.
"I first became aware of Metacor as a new product in the marketplace in 2001, before it was fully understood that Metacor really did represent a step change in how offshore paint maintenance programs were planned and managed in the North Sea.
"I have watched it develop to become a central and vital part of the integrity management systems of many of the major operators. The benefits on offer have become increasingly obvious and with clients like Shell, BP, BG, CNR, BOL and Talisman on board, I now see Metacor as setting the industry standard."
Nickerson believes that with its existing, solid client base Metacor can continue to develop its product offering while building its international presence.
"We are in a prime position for controlled international growth -- with a focus on Houston and the Gulf of Mexico in particular," he said.
"We have an achievable aim -- to become the leading provider of coatings maintenance planning and management services to oil and gas operators, worldwide."
Married with two adult sons, Nickerson is a past captain of Aberdeenshire rugby club, who played at district level for Edinburgh.
