Since 2003, he has been Managing Director of the Engineering Centre for Opencast Mining of RWE Power in Frechen.

Dr. Ulrich Jobs, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RWE Dea AG, commented, "Georg Schöning has a long and successful track record as an executive manager. His retirement will mark the loss of a valued and experienced colleague. We are delighted that Thomas Rappuhn is available to succeed him with a sound knowledge of the business and the company. The appointment of Ralf to Baben provides us with an experienced manager from the Group for RWE Dea who completes the management trio with his expertise."
