Saudi Aramco has announced several new placements: Effective April 30, Khaled A. Al-Buraik has been appointed vice president of Saudi Aramco Affairs; Dawood M. Al-Dawood, vice president of Marketing, Supply and Joint Venture Coordination; Zuhair A. Al-Hussain, vice president of Drilling and Workover; Majid Y. Al-Mugla, vice president of Project Management; Ahmad A. Al-Sa'adi, vice president of Pipelines, Distribution and Terminal Operations; and Saad A. Al-Turaiki, vice president of Southern Area Oil Operations.
Khaled A. Al-Buraik
Al-Buraik joined the company as a petroleum engineer in the Drilling and Workover Engineering Division in 1987, after completing both bachelor's and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), and working as a faculty member at the university from 1984 to 1987.
Between 1990 and 1991, he joined Exxon, in the United States, on a developmental assignment and served as a petroleum engineer in several departments.
He was acting supervisor of Drilling and Workover Engineering between November 1996 and February 1997, and acting general supervisor of Onshore/Offshore Drilling Engineering from 1997.
In 1999, he served as superintendent of Onshore Development Drilling and worked as general supervisor of Southern Area Gas Engineering.
In March 2000, Al-Buraik began a series of managerial assignments, starting as superintendent of Southern Area Maintenance Support and moving to superintendent of Oil Operations in Shedgum Producing Division and Ain Dar Producing Division. In September of that year, he became acting manager of Southern Area Producing Engineering.
From 2001 to 2004, he served as manager of Northern Area Drilling Operations, Drilling and Workover Engineering, Drilling and Workover Services, general manager of Drilling and Workover and manager of Production and Facilities Development, Drilling and Offshore Workover and the Sea Water Injection Department.
From 2005 to June 2008, Al-Buraik served as the chief petroleum engineer, and during that time he acted as executive director of Northern Area Oil Operations, executive director of Drilling and Workover and executive director of Petroleum Engineering. In July 2008, he became executive director of Saudi Aramco Affairs.
Al-Buraik has completed several leadership and management development programs, including Oxford Energy Seminar in the U.K., Leadership at the Peak in Colorado Springs, the 11-week long IMD Executive Management Training Program in Switzerland, the Leadership Development Seminar in Washington D.C. and the Saudi Aramco Global Business Program.
Al-Buraik also serves on the Saudi Petroleum International Inc. (SPII) and Sino Saudi Gas Ltd. Boards of Directors. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
Dawood M. Al-Dawood
Al-Dawood joined the company in August 1982 and then earned a company-sponsored bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Kansas in 1988.
In 1988, Al-Dawood started on several petroleum engineering assignments before joining the Drilling and Workover organization in 1989 as drilling operations foreman. In 1999, he held various superintendent assignments and a position as acting manager of the Drilling and Workover Services Department. He was also the team leader of the Drilling and Workover Special Well Action Team (SWAT) during that time.
In 2000, he was assigned to Southern Area Gas Operations as superintendent of 'Udhailiyah Well Services and the Gas Well Completion Division. In late 2001, he was named manager of the Gas Producing Department and in 2002 acting manager of Shedgum Gas Plant. In 2003, he joined Southern Area Oil Operations as manager of North Ghawar Producing Department.
From 2004 to 2006, he was assigned to be manager of the Crude Oil Sales and Marketing Department, with an interim assignment as acting general manager of Drilling and Workover. In early 2006, he was tapped to be the manager of Jiddah Refinery.
In June of that year, he was transferred to Houston, Texas, as president and CEO of Aramco Services Co. He earned a master of business administration degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Sloan Fellow in 2008.
He served as acting president and CEO of Vela International Marine Ltd. in Dubai before being named executive director of Marketing, Supply and Joint Venture Coordination in September 2008.
Al-Dawood has taken part in several leadership training activities throughout his career, including Saudi Aramco's Global Business Acumen Program; the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University; the GE Middle East Senior Executive Program at Crotonville, New York; and the Oxford Energy Seminar.
Al-Dawood is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and serves on the boards of many Saudi Aramco subsidiaries and affiliates.
Zuhair A. Al-Hussain
Al-Hussain joined the company's Drilling and Production Engineering Department in January 1978.
After graduating from KFUPM in 1979 with a degree in petroleum engineering, he worked with the Southern Area Production Engineering and 'Udhailiyah Reservoir Management divisions as a petroleum engineer.
In 1984, he began a series of assignments as a contract workover rig liaison with the Onshore Workover Division. Following various acting assignments, including superintendent of the Drilling Rig Support Division, he was named superintendent of the Onshore Workover Division in 1987.
Al-Hussain served as superintendent of a number of producing operations divisions before becoming manager of the Seawater Injection Department in 1992 and manager of the Ras Tanura Producing Department in 1995. He had several acting assignments as manager of the Abqaiq Producing Operations, Abqaiq Producing Maintenance, Drilling and Work Over Services, Development Drilling and Offshore Workover departments.
In 1999, he acted as D&WO general manager before being named to the full position in 2001.
Beginning in 2005, he had stints as acting executive director of D&WO, Southern Area Oil Operations, Northern Area Oil Operations and Industrial Services before his promotion to executive director of D&WO.
Al-Hussain's leadership programs include the Aramco Management Development Seminar (AMDS) in 1989, and the Global Business Program and the Michigan Executive Program, both in 2000.
Majid Y. Al-Mugla
After earning his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in 1976, Al-Mugla started with Saudi Aramco as an engineer in the Consulting Services Department, where he worked until joining Engineering and Project Management’s planning staff in 1979.
Later that year, Al-Mugla took time out for out-of-Kingdom training before returning to KFUPM to work on his advanced degree in business management, which he completed in 1982. He then held a number of senior engineering positions for Northern Projects, Remote Projects and then Refinery Projects. In 1985, he served as project manager for Ras Tanura Manufacturing and Operations and served as senior engineer and project manager on several projects on both sides of the Kingdom before becoming general manager first of the Ras Tanura Refinery Projects Department and later the Refining Projects Department in 1995.
In 1998, he was named president of Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery, and in 1999, Al-Mugla became manager of the Facilities Planning Department before taking several executive positions in Western Region Refining and Distribution, leading to acting executive director in 2003.
In 2004-2005, he served as general manager of Central Region Refining, Supply and Distribution. From 2005-2008, he played a leadership role in the Ras Tanura Integrated Project before becoming acting executive director of Project Management in January.
Al-Mugla also has taken part in several management development activities here and abroad including the company's Global Business Program.
Ahmad A. Al-Sa'adi
Al-Sa'adi joined the Projects Design and Construction Department in August 1981 as a project engineer, having graduated from KFUPM with a chemical engineering degree. From 1984 to 1994, he worked in the Process and Environmental, Process Engineering and Abqaiq Plants Operations divisions, with acting assignments as supervisor, chief process engineer and general supervisor.
In September 1994, Al-Sa'adi was named chief process engineer of the Process Engineering Division. In 1995, he was made coordinator of the Manufacturing Facilities Planning Division.
Al-Sa'adi had several acting assignments as manager of the Process and Control Systems, Facilities Planning and the Lab Research and Development departments, until he was promoted to manager of Lab Research and Development in November 1997.
In November 2000, he took on an acting assignment as chief engineer of Engineering, until he was named to that position in September 2001.
In December 2001, he was assigned the post of president and CEO of Aramco Gulf Operations Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, until April 2004.
Al-Sa'adi continued with acting assignments as executive director of Industrial Services, Engineering Services, Southern Area Gas Operations, and Distribution and Terminal Operations (D&TO) before he was named to take on the position of D&TO executive director on Sept. 1, 2008.
Al-Sa'adi participated in several leadership programs, including AMDS in 1997, the Harvard Program for Management Development in 2000 and the Global Business Program in 2001.
Saad A. Al-Turaiki
Al-Turaiki joined the company in June 1975 as an engineer with the Drilling and Production Engineering Department after graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from KFUPM.
Following engineering positions with Drilling and Production Engineering, Northern Area Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering and 'Udhailiyah Reservoir Management divisions, Al-Turaiki was made general supervisor of the Allocation Data Base and Technical Support Division in 1983.
He later served as general supervisor of the 'Udhailiyah Production Engineering Division, superintendent of Abqaiq Producing Operations Division, superintendent of Abu Ali Producing Division and general supervisor of Safaniya Producing Operations Engineering Division.
Al-Turaiki became manager of the Ras Tanura Producing Department in 1991.
One year later, he was made manager of Safaniya Producing. He also acted as general manager of Abqaiq Producing, Drilling and Workover, and Petroleum Engineering.
In 2000, he was named general manager of Petroleum Engineering. He held acting assignments as executive director of Southern Area Oil Operations; Northern Area Oil Operations; Abqaiq Plants, Power and Pipelines; and Petroleum Engineering and Development until his appointment as Southern Area Gas Operations executive director in April 2004.
Al-Turaiki took part in the Cornell Executive Development Program in 1994, the Chevron Managerial Leadership Forum in 1996 and the company's Global Business Program in 1998. In addition, he took part in programs on technology transfer, crude oil supply and strategic management simulations.
