Antares Offshore, LLC, a Houston company specializing in energy facility projects, announced today that it has been awarded the detail design of the KivuWatt Gas Extraction Project by ContourGlobal KivuWatt Ltd.
Antares will provide detail design and support ContourGlobal's procurement of a floating platform-based gas extraction system to be moored in the Rwandan sector of Lake Kivu, extracting methane gas from a depth of 350 meters. The gas will be processed and transported by a pipeline to ContourGlobal's power plant being developed in Kibuye, Rwanda. This gas extraction facility is the first large scale effort to commercialize the methane gas entrapped in Lake Kivu's waters. Using the lake's methane gas as the power plant's fuel source will reduce the cost of electrical generation for Rwanda and reduce the potential of an uncontrolled gas release occurring in Lake Kivu. Antares Offshore's involvement with ContourGlobal's KivuWatt project began in October 2007 with feasibility engineering for the gas extraction facility. Antares' continued involvement through front end engineering and now detail design provides the continuity to successfully complete the project.
Ken McKay, Director of Antares Offshore, stated, "We are honored that ContourGlobal has entrusted us to complete the design of this unique facility. This is a significant project for all stakeholders, the people of Rwanda, ContourGlobal, and Antares Offshore."
Antares uses the power of innovation tempered by construction experience to deliver complete packages to its clients world-wide. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Antares supports energy projects worldwide.
