Comstock Starts Production in the Gulf of Mexico

Comstock Resources, Inc. has announced that the three significant discovery wells drilled in 2000 in Comstock's Gulf of Mexico exploration program with Bois d'Arc Offshore Ltd. were recently placed on production with the completion of expanded production facilities at South Pelto / South Timbalier. The OCS-G 12027 #6, the well drilled at South Pelto Block 5 in the first quarter of 2000 to a depth of 15,099 feet, is currently producing at 21.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 892 barrels of condensate per day (an equivalent daily rate of 26.9 million cubic feet) at a 8,200 psig flowing tubing pressure. The OCS-G 13925 #2, a 14,449 foot well drilled at South Timbalier Block 11, is currently producing 22.9 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 320 barrels of condensate per day (an equivalent daily rate of 24.8 million cubic feet) at a 8,023 psig flowing tubing pressure. The most recent discovery, OCS-G 12027 #5, a 16,149 foot well drilled at South Pelto Block 5, is currently producing 28.4 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 925 barrels of condensate per day (an equivalent daily rate of 34 million cubic feet) at a 8,650 psig flowing tubing pressure.

These high volume wells came on line in time to take advantage of the high January 2001 natural gas prices. Comstock estimates that it will receive approximately $10.00 per mcf for its share of the production from these wells during January. The South Timbalier well has been producing since late October 2000 and two South Pelto wells were producing at these rates since the last week of December 2000. Comstock has a 25% working interest in the two South Pelto 5 wells and a 33% working interest in the South Timbalier 11 well.

Comstock and Bois d'Arc are currently drilling two additional 16,000 foot prospects at South Pelto Block 5. The OCS-G 12027 #8 well is currently drilling at 12,422 feet and the OCS-G 12027 #9 well is currently drilling at 4,520 feet. Comstock has a 25% working interest in these two wells.
