Keppel to Expand Presence in China's Guangdong Province

Mr. Wang Yang, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC's Guangdong Committee received Mr. Lim Chee Onn, Chairman of Keppel Corporation and delegation yesterday in Guangzhou.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Wang noted that Keppel is a reputable multinational company, with a strong global business network and significant influence as an international investor. Mr. Lim's visit to Guangdong with senior Keppel executives demonstrates the importance that Keppel places on enhancing its relationship with Guangdong.

Mr. Wang said the global financial crisis brought not only challenges, but also opportunities for China and the rest of the world. Guangdong is an attractive investment destination in terms of its sizable market and competitive production costs. Mr. Wang hoped that Keppel would actively strengthen its cooperation with Guangdong, and boost the province's industrial transformation and upgrading.

Mr. Lim was positive on Guangdong's development prospects and expressed Keppel's readiness to actively deepen and broaden its cooperation with the province and to continue to expand its business presence there. He discussed a number of project opportunities in the province during his meetings with Guangdong and Guangzhou leaders.

Today, Mr. Lim and his delegation of senior Keppel executives also met with Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, Secretary of the CPC's Guangzhou Committee and Mr. Zhang Guangning, Mayor of Guangzhou City. They also held separate discussions with various provincial and city leaders.
