Emerson, Qatargas Sign 5-Year Agreement to Expand LNG Operations

Emerson Process Management

Emerson Process Management has entered into a long-term support and service agreement with Qatargas Operating Company Ltd. for its expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations.

Under the five-year agreement, Emerson will provide asset management services, advanced skills training, and a comprehensive parts management program. Emerson also has established a dedicated team of experienced engineers who are residents in Qatar to work closely day-to-day on-site at the Qatargas facility in Ras Laffan with their Qatargas counterparts. Emerson already has a long term alliance in place with Qatargas for supply of Emerson's digital automation solutions, including PlantWeb digital plant architecture and smart instrumentation.

When completed and operating, Qatargas' four new LNG liquefaction and mega trains, at Ras Laffan, are expected to create the world's largest capacity for LNG, each delivering at an annual rate of 7.8 million tons.

"Our latest agreement with Qatargas demonstrates the continued commitment by Emerson to invest in Qatar and support their aggressive schedule to produce and export more than 42 million tons of LNG by the end of the decade," said Steven A. Sonnenberg, executive vice president of Emerson and business leader for Emerson Process Management. "We have established a regional center in Doha and are investing in service and training facilities to expand support to Qatargas."

Qatargas, who pioneered the fast-growing LNG business in Qatar, now owns and operates a world-class onshore LNG plant utilizing natural gas from the North Field in the Arabian Gulf, and today markets and exports LNG and associated condensate worldwide.

"We originally selected Emerson as our main instrumentation and controls contractor and supplier because the company is a world-class automation leader that emphasizes project and operations needs, including continuous improvement and long-term operational support," said Fred Smeenk, Chief Operating Officer-Operations of Qatargas. "This new agreement shows Emerson's continued willingness to collaborate and help to secure our future success."
