Total reports that one of its natural gas offshore development wells in Indonesia suffered a blowout on Monday, but there was no fire and production was not affected. The blowout occurred during drilling at the TN-C9 well, which is part of the Tunu field in the Mahakam block in East Kalimantan. Total said that efforts are underway to secure the site and the blowout has subsided. The Ensco I barge suffered minimal damage from the incident.
Production from the Tunu field currently stands at 1.4 billion cubic feet of gas per day. Total supplies natural gas to eight Bontang liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in East Kalimantan.
