Cano Limon Pipeline Attacked
Production has been halted on the Cano Limon pipeline in Colombia after bomb blast struck the pipeline on Thursday. Technicians from Ecopetrol are currently carrying out repairs to the pipeline which transport 110,000 barrels per day of oil. This is the 13th attack on the pipeline this year. The 500-mile Cano Limon pipeline serves an oilfield operated by Occidental Petroleum Corp
A group of U.S. Special Forces are based in the dangerous eastern province of Arauca, where they are training Colombian troops to protect the pipeline. The Cano Limon was bombed 42 times last year, but this was much better than in 2001, when it was attacked more than 170 times.
