PGS Ramps Up MultiClient 2D in International Offshore Basins
In 2008, PGS has significantly ramped up its investments in MultiClient 2D (MC2D). Targeting less mature basins worldwide, PGS has acquired 2D in offshore basins in areas as diverse as the Andaman Sea, Indonesia, and Kenya.
In addition, PGS has acquired several MC2D campaigns using its GeoStreamer in areas that include offshore the North West Shelf Australia, Trinidad and the Gulf of Mexico. A large GeoStreamer program will also shortly be conducted offshore Cyprus. In total, 60,000 line km of MC2D are planned for 2008.
Tom Ziegler, VP Global MultiClient, commented, "There has been an upsurge of interest from oil companies in 2D, who require regional datasets to best ascertain the hydrocarbon potential of basins in their search for new reserves. PGS are responding to this need on a global basis and are using GeoStreamer to gain a significant uplift in data quality and a better imaging of the basin geology."
Guillaume Cambois, Senior Advisor, added, "The GeoStreamer datasets acquired are currently being processed. Results to date have been very encouraging, with the data showing increased bandwith and resolution, deeper penetration and a much improved estimation of earth attenuation."
