StatoilHydro Comes Up Dry at 30/2-4 S in the North Sea

StatoilHydro ASA, Operator of production license 051, has concluded the drilling of wildcat well 30/2-4 S, located near the Huldra field in the North Sea.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Statfjord formation in the Lower Jurassic.

The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in the Lunde formation in the Upper Triassic.

The well was dry. Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks with satisfactory reservoir quality were encountered in the primary exploration target.

The secondary target was not reached as the well was concluded for technical reasons before this formation was reached.

The well was the fourth exploration well in production license 051, which was awarded in the 4th licensing round in 1979.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3699 meters below the sea surface, and was concluded in the Statfjord formation in the Lower Jurassic. Water depth at the site is 125 meters.

The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 30/2-4 S was drilled by the West Epsilon drilling facility, which will now proceed to production license 296 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 2/5-13 where StatoilHydro ASA is the Operator.
