The Independence hub, a key natural gas production platform in the Gulf of Mexico, has resumed operations Friday following storm delays.

"The gas flows resumed after 5 a.m. Friday and volumes continue to ramp up," says Rick Rainey, a spokesman with Enterprise Products Partners LP (EPD).

The hub was taken off-line last week so Enterprise could perform four-day evaluation of previous repairs to the Independence Trail pipeline, which carries gas away from the hub. That evaluation was delayed as Tropical Storm Edouard moved through the gulf. The Independence hub produces 800 to 850 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, or about 12% of U.S. Gulf offshore natural gas production.
