Singapore Petroleum Spuds Block B's First Well Offshore Cambodia
Singapore Petroleum Company Limited and its partners in Block B commenced drilling of the Block's first exploration well, Vimean Morodok MahaNorkor-1 on July 8, 2008.
The exploration prospect is situated in Block B, offshore Cambodia, east of the Khmer sub-basin, and in water depth of about 75 meters. The well location is approximately 160 kilometers southwest of Sihanoukville, an important port in Cambodia. The prospect lies about 80 kilometers east of the Thai-Cambodian Overlapping Claims Area, in the Gulf of Thailand.
The exploration well will be drilled to test the hydrocarbon potential in the Oligocene fluvio-lacustrine sediment as the primary target and the Miocene fluvial-deltaic sediment reservoirs as the secondary objective. The well is anticipated to reach a true vertical depth of 2,917 meters. Drilling is expected to take approximately 15 days to complete.
