Rolls-Royce Reels in First Contract for China's Seismic Vessel Market
Rolls-Royce is to design and equip one of the world's most advanced seismic research vessels for China. The GBP13 million contract is also its first such contract in the important Chinese market for offshore seismic vessels.
The seismic streamer vessel has been ordered by BGP Marine China, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Company (CNPC). It will operate worldwide in support of oil and gas exploration and production.
Anders Almestad, Rolls-Royce President – Offshore, said: "This breakthrough contract for Rolls-Royce integrated systems further strengthens our position in the growing Chinese offshore market.
"Earlier this year Rolls-Royce won a GBP58 million contract to deliver design and equipment systems for two of the world's most advanced offshore support vessels – that was also a first for the Chinese market."
The Rolls-Royce designed NVC 830 seismic research vessel is twin-screw with a direct drive propulsion system, improving towing capabilities for the 14 streamer cables, outfitted for autonomous operations year around in both shallow and deep waters.
The integrated solution from Rolls-Royce also includes engines, main propellers, tunnel thruster, steering gears and rudders, diesel generators, mooring winches, automation system and switchboards. The equipment is to be delivered late 2009/early 2010.
The design meets both Clean Design, and future Code for Special Purpose Ships requirements. Capabilities include low fuel consumption – for all operations - and good sea keeping capabilities. The fuel bunker capacity is based on continuous operation for up to 80 days. Comfort Class accommodation is provided for the 66 crew, with good separation from machinery spaces.
