Shell Seeks to Stop Arrest of Managing Director

Shell has petitioned the federal high court in Abuja to stop the arrest of the Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company, Mr. Ron Van der Berg. A warrant for Mr. Van der Berg's arrest was issued by the House of Representatives in connection with the court hearing on the disposition of OPL 245 earlier this week.

The House of Representative had summoned Mr. Berg to appear at the hearing of a petition filed by Malabu Oil and Gas Limited over the revocation of offshore block, OPL 245, but he failed to appear.

Shell is seeking to be excused from any further proceedings of the house of representatives committee on petroleum resources in connection with or on account of the petition of Malabu Oil in respect to OPL 245.
