Hyundai Heavy Industries Breaks Ground for Gunsan Shipyard
Hyundai Heavy Industries broke ground for Gunsan Shipyard on May 7, 2008.
Gunsan will join Ulsan and Yeongam as the third Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard.
HHI will invest KRW 1.2 trillion in the 1.8 million square meters shipyard. With an annual shipbuilding capacity of 28 ships, and annual sales expected to reach KRW 2.8 trillion, the shipyard will employ 8400 workers directly, and create jobs for over 10,000 people in total.
The Gunsan shipyard will be equipped with the world's largest one million dwt class dry dock, the world's largest 1600ton Goliath Crane and cutting-edge production facilities.
The construction of the Gunsan shipyard will be completed in August of 2009.
