Converteam Celebrates Multi-Million Dollar Order with Vyborg, Samsung
Converteam, the leading power conversion specialist, has secured a landmark order to supply power optimization solutions for two offshore semi-submersible drilling rigs from Vyborg Shipyard in Russia and Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. Converteam will provide power, propulsion, distribution, vessel automation and thruster assisted mooring systems to the first two CS-50 ice class rigs for the Shtokman gas field.
Converteam will use its proprietary MV7000 medium voltage PWM frequency converters for the rig thruster drive system and will also utilize its compact marine class medium voltage switchgear, robust compact induction motors, the recently launched C-series automation and thruster assisted mooring workstations. Converteam will also act as the complete electrical integrator for the rigs, which will be classified to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS).
Andy Cooper, Offshore and Merchant Business Director for Converteam UK Ltd. said, "The success of the two rigs will mark the long term commitment and dedication of Converteam to the Shtokman project. Converteam's global project management skills are implemented throughout the project with contribution from our teams in Germany, Korea, Russia and the UK."
