USGS: New Survey Reveals Oil, Gas Potential in Afghanistan

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said that new data gathered in an airborne geophysical survey of Afghanistan points to the "potential location of oil and gas" within the country's borders.

The "significant natural resource potential" indicated in the data are of little value considering that the true potential of the area is still a mystery.

What the data does offer is the opportunity for private investors who could better "define areas of future exploration and development," according to a press release issued by USGS.

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan commissioned USGS to conduct the survey.

The USGS will present the collected data from the survey at an event hosted by the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington D.C. at the Embassy of Afghanistan, located at 2341 Wyoming Ave., NW.

The event takes place April 30 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
