National Iranian Oil Makes Gas Discovery of 985 Bcf

Amongst the pomp and pageantry of Iran's 13th International Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Exhibition, National Iranian Oil Company Director for Exploration Affairs Mahmoud Mohaddes announced that a gas field has been discovered in the Masjed-Soleiman region in the southern area of the country.

The in-place gas find was located at a drilling depth of 4,380 meters and contains an estimated 985 Bcf. Mohaddes said 739 Bcf of that amount is "producible."

Mohaddes said that advances in technology has allowed new discoveries where previous exploratory operations have failed, according to Alalam News.

"Some excavation has been done before," said Mohaddes, "but due to the lack of proper drilling operation technology, the operation had failed. Now to provide Razi Petrochemical Complex with sour gas, we have decided to restart drilling operation in the area.

"To produce 150 Mcf/d of gas to handle the volume needed by RPC, it is necessary to dig three wells."
