Heerema Hartlepool, one of the three construction yards of Heerema Fabrication Group, has been awarded a contract for the fabrication of the Production Sweetening deck and bridge for the Nexen Buzzard oilfield in the UK North Sea.

Following the recently announced contract award for the construction of the jacket and piles at the Heerema Vlissingen yard, Heerema Hartlepool Ltd. has signed a contract with Nexen Petroleum U.K. Limited for the fabrication of the 6,000-ton Production Sweetening (PS) deck and the 500-ton bridge for the fourth platform on the Buzzard installation.

The PS deck has three deck levels and will have a length of 60 meters, a width of 36 meters and an overall height of 42 meters. The bridge, with a length of 80 meters, will connect the new facility to the existing Buzzard complex. The fabrication work will start in June this year. The load-out of the deck is scheduled in March 2010.

Frank Moran, Director of Heerema Hartlepool said: "We completed the very successful 10,500-ton Buzzard QU Deck for Nexen in 2006, our largest ever project. Our reputation for high quality workmanship, safe working and completion on schedule was a key factor in Nexen's decision to award this prestigious follow-on work to the Hartlepool yard." And he continued: "We are very proud to have won this work, which ensures that the expertise and tradition of major offshore platform construction continues in Hartlepool and the Tees Valley area into the future".
