New Multi-Million-Pound Base for Expro's World-Renowned Tronic Team
Work will start shortly on creating a new multi-million-pound base for international oilfield service company Expro's Tronic products division in Ulverston, UK. The new facility will consolidate the Tronic operations in a single, modern site, and provide an improved working environment for employees.
Expro's Tronic products are market-leading high integrity subsea power and data connection systems used in the oil and gas industry. Around 260 people are currently employed across several Tronic sites in the Ulverston area. The ambitious move will allow the business to consolidate its operations in one location, which has the capacity for more than 450 employees.
Planning permission for the site, which will house two environmentally friendly buildings, was secured in October 2007. Building work on the 45,000 square metre site in the Low Mill Business Park is due to begin in March, with entry expected mid 2009.
A two-storey facility will house the main production area, research, development and testing facilities and office support elements. The bespoke, cutting-edge building is being custom built and the impressive glass frontage will provide a light and airy working environment. The office element of the complex looks towards the sea in the south-west and will benefit from views over adjoining farmland. A second building will cater for the specific requirements of the company's core moulding and machining capabilities.
Sustainability and the environment are key elements for Expro and as such it is anticipated that the site will also employ rainwater water harvesting technology and solar heating. The company's commitment to environmental responsibility means that wind power generation is also being considered for the site.
Mark Jones, General Manager of Expro's Tronic products said: "We are delighted that our move will benefit the local economy as the company has had strong links with the area for many years. Consolidating our facilities in a high quality and high profile development underlines the firm's commitment to the area and will provide our employees with a much-improved working environment.
"The significant investment attached to the site will support our future business plans and will also help cement Expro's Tronic products as industry leaders."
The Tronic products business has been part of leading international oilfield service company Expro since 1998. Expro's business has grown rapidly in recent years, both organically and through acquisition, and a global re-brand of the company has united its extensive worldwide operations under the Expro brand. The world-renowned Tronic products are the heart of Expro's Connectors & Measurements marketing segment.
Expro last year implemented a three-year Excellence in Operations programme. The global initiative focuses on safety, service quality and customer care, with the clear aim of the company being recognised as the industry leaders in delivering operational excellence to its customers.
