Petrohawk Completes Horizontal Well at 16.5 Mmcfe/d in LA
Petrohawk Energy Corporation has completed the Killen 13 #3H (50% WI) for an initial production rate of 16.5 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day (Mmcfe/d) at Elm Grove field in North Louisiana. The well was completed on December 20, 2007. Drilled to the Lower Cotton Valley Taylor Sand, the well had a horizontal lateral of approximately 3700 feet and was fracture stimulated with an eight stage open hole packer system. Approximately 1.6 million pounds of sand were pumped into the formation.
Petrohawk expects to drill at least ten additional horizontal Lower Cotton Valley Taylor Sand locations during 2008 in addition to other horizontal initiatives at Elm Grove. The Killen 13 #3H is the first horizontal well completed by the Company in the Taylor Sand.
Including recent acquisitions, Petrohawk will own interests in over 150 square miles of leasehold at Elm Grove field.
