The Sudanese army denied Tuesday that an oil field near the conflict-torn western Sudanese region of Darfur had been taken control of by rebels from the region, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

"No oil field has been occupied," the Sudanese Armed Forces said in a statement.

The Justice and Equality Movement claimed that its militants launched an attack Tuesday morning on an oil field in South Kodorfan State neighboring Darfur and had taken control.
