James Meara Retires from Marathon Oil
Marathon Oil says that James F. Meara, vice president of Tax will retire effective Dec. 31, 2007, after more than 25 years of service. Stephen J. Landry, currently director of Tax, Compliance and Reporting for Marathon, has been elected by the Company's Board of Directors to succeed Meara, effective Jan. 1, 2008.
Commenting on the announcement, Marathon president and CEO said, "We thank Jim Meara for his years of leadership and dedicated service to the Company. He has made many important contributions during his distinguished career, and we wish him the very best in his retirement.
"Additionally, we look forward to Steve joining the leadership team and the contributions he will make. Steve possesses an impressive depth of knowledge and experience within his field, which will be valuable in his new role leading our tax organization."

Meara, who holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University, joined Marathon in 1980 as a tax analyst. He subsequently moved through a series of posts in the tax department, becoming manager of Tax Audit Systems and Planning in 1988. In 1995, he was named commercial director of Sakhalin Energy in Moscow, Russia. From 2000, Meara served as controller and was appointed to vice president of Tax in January 2002.
Meara is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Landry joined Marathon in January 2007 as director of Tax, Compliance and Reporting. Previously, he spent 22 years with Ernst and Young. He became a Tax partner for Ernst and Young in 1998 and transferred to the Houston energy practice in 2000. Landry, who is a native of New Orleans, received a bachelor's of business administration in economics from Loyola University of New Orleans.
Landry is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
