The five and a half storey worker-housing unit, with a total floor area of 2600 square meters, will be completely A60 rated and will be designed and constructed to include an aluminium helicopter deck. AMBhertel will install the accommodation unit on an offshore 'mobile production unit with storage' (Mopustor) on the Yme fields in the North Sea.
The accommodation will house 55 individuals in single occupancy bedrooms with a whole host of amenities including a gym, sauna, laundry, lounges and recreation areas. Part of the built-up facility will be the offices and the Mopustor control room. The project is due for completion by the second quarter of 2008.
"The accommodation which will be built for Talisman Energy will follow very stringent quality standards. Our Dubai and Jebel Ali facilities in the here in the Middle East will be fabricating the accommodation unit, which will then be shipped to the Yme fields for installation. The entire contract will take 174,000 man-hours and will be done to the exacting standards necessary for offshore accommodation," commented Steve McConnachie, AMB's general manager.
The unit, when installed, will be Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certified while the full design and fabrication of the accommodation will be based on the stringent Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD) and NORSOK requirements and regulations with an emphasis on technical safety and working environment issues. The NORSOK standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, value adding and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations.
