Subsea 7's Seven Oceans Heads to Work on Blind Faith Project

Subsea 7's new state-of-the-art deepwater rigid pipelay vessel 'Seven Oceans' has arrived in the Port of Leith, Edinburgh to commence operations for its first major installation project, for the Chevron Blind Faith development, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Two x 7km 7in pipelines have been fabricated at Subsea 7's spoolbase in Leith and are currently being spooled onboard the Seven Oceans. The vessel will transit to Theodore, Alabama, US for project equipment mobilization prior to the in-field installation operations that will take place late September/early October 2007.

Mel Fitzgerald Chief Executive Officer of Subsea 7 said: "We look forward to seeing the Seven Oceans undertaking its first installation project in the Gulf of Mexico. The new vessels that are joining the Subsea 7 fleet will increase our overall capacity but they are strategically targeted with new technology and capability to service deep and ultra deepwater water markets. This will enable us to access markets that we would not previously have been able to service. That has to be good news for all our clients."

Seven Oceans is one of three new vessels to have joined the Subsea 7 fleet in the last quarter. Seven new vessels in total will be added to the fleet over a 24 month period as a result of over $800m investment in new assets and equipment.

The vessel has been designed and built especially for deep sea pipe laying and for construction works for the offshore oil and gas industry. The 157m long vessel is fitted with a main reel capable of carrying 3,500t of rigid steel pipe and a 400t tensioner allowing deployment in water depths of up to 3,000m. A lay ramp system is permanently installed for deployment of a range of rigid products between 6"-16". The vessel can accommodate up to 120 crew.
