Among the certifications are ISO 9001 and API Q1, both related to the quality management system at VetcoGray's Jandira manufacturing plant in São Paulo, Brazil. The facility produces surface and subsea drilling and production equipment and systems including wellheads, christmas trees, manifolds, mudline equipment and tools for the oil and gas industry. Also awarded were API 6A and API 17D certifications, which relate to product quality.
"These certifications are clear evidence of VetcoGray's excellence in engineering and manufacturing processes, which are designed to supply reliable, safe and high quality equipment and services to our customers," said Iberê de Oliveira Santos, Quality Management System Manager for VetcoGray.
"Earning these certifications further strengthens our position in the offshore Brazil market, where upcoming projects are expected to require API certification," added Araken Barreto, Sales and Marketing Manager for VetcoGray in Brazil.
To earn API certification, suppliers must demonstrate that its products are manufactured and tested under reliable and consistent certified processes, according to the highest recognized standards of the oil industry – from design to material specification to inspection procedures. The certification and further audits also assure that the supplier maintains and monitors the certified processes.
For more than 75 years, API has led the development of petroleum and petrochemical equipment and operating standards. These represent the industry's collective knowledge and experience, ranging from drill bits to environmental protection, and embrace proven engineering and operating practices and safe, interchangeable equipment and materials.
API maintains more than 500 standards and recommended practices. Many have been incorporated into state and federal regulations; increasingly, they are also being adopted by the International Standards Organization (ISO), a global federation of more than 100 standards groups.
VetcoGray made the decision to seek API monogram program and quality system certification in Brazil in June of 2006, and formally submitted its quality management system for API review in October of 2006. The API audit of the Jandira facility was held in May of 2007, and certification was awarded in June of 2007.
