Apache Drills Duster in Carnarvon Basin Offshore Australia

The Argos-1 exploration well has come up dry. The well is located in the Carnarvon Basin approximately 5 kilometers south-southwest of the Ocean Legend facility, which is currently producing the Legendre oilfield. On November 18, 2002 the well reached total depth of 2052 meters. The objective Lower Cretaceous sands were evaluated to be water-bearing, and the well will be plugged and abandoned upon completion of logging operations.

The Ensco 56 jackup drilled the well. The rig will now move to Apache's Ceres-1 well located in permit WA-261-P.

Apache is the operator of permit WA-254-P with 47.8879%. Its partners are Woodside with 24.375%; 0First Australian Resources with 10.7143%; Pan Pacific Petroleum with 2.9914%; Sun Resources with 7.8571%; and Victoria Petroleum with the remaining 6.1743%.
