Duffy and McGovern Gains New Deals with the Move to Singapore

Duffy and McGovern has announced deals worth more than $140,000 in South East Asia and Australasia as it moves into a new base of operations for the region to facilitate its continual growth.

Duffy and McGovern Accommodation Services (DMAS) has fulfilled orders from Sakhalin to New Zealand in 2007, as its new build fleet expansion programme meets incredible demand from onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration operators.

DMAS’ distribution hub at Pandan Loop, Jurong province in Singapore, has a stock of more than 40 modules, which will rise to over 70 by the end of the year - underlining the firm’s commitment to the region.

The firm’s Singapore division, led by experienced operations and technical support engineer Darren Bohn, and including its regional sales staff, has now relocated to new offices at The Franklin, Science Park 1, close to the busy Jurong port and the evolving Tuas industrial park.

Duffy and McGovern is the only offshore module specialist in the region capable of supplying units which meet the latest ABS, SOLAS and IMO regulations and are DNV approved at short notice and to any configuration.

Canyon Offshore has rented a standalone four-man accommodation module for platform jacket inspection and survey work it is carrying out for the for PTT Exploration and Production Company Limited – Thailand’s national oil producer – on the Seacor Acclaim vessel.

Atwood Oceanics has taken a 25ft x 10ft eight-man accommodation unit for use on the Vicksburg cantilever jackup rig, carrying out drilling operations off Thailand for Chevron, on a six month contract with options.

Fugro Surveys Pte has taken a 10-man sleeping complex for staff carrying out subsea cable work on the IYZCO Supplier vessel in the South China Sea on a minimum three-month deal with worth more than $25,000.

"The scale of our growing stock base in Singapore and at our sister site in Perth, Western Australia enables us to fulfil orders for offshore accommodation modules of the highest standard, at the shortest notice," said Mr Bohn.

"Standards in offshore accommodation are on the increase around the world and, with the largest fleet of customisable cabins of their kind in the industry we are able to meet those requirements.

"Fugro’s British ex-pat staff are accustomed to the quality of accommodation used in the North Sea, which has been continually improved to reach a global industry-leading level, and our ability to deliver units of this type from stock and on a limited timescale was a key factor in winning the deal with them in the South China Sea.

"We are also the only firm capable of delivering the ABS-approved accommodation Atwood Oceanics needed at short notice, and for Canyon Offshore we were able to mobilise the unit required within 24 hours of their order with us."

Duffy and McGovern’s modules are fully A60 fire rated and DNV approved, and can be custom-modified to fit virtually any purpose. Its unique range of 20ft x 8ft engineering cabins can be outfitted as offices, laboratories, test facilities, mud logging and MWD cabins as well as galleys and gymnasium.

Inpex Browse has taken a 20ft x 8ft module, fitted as a mud lab test cabin including wet area, for the Songa Venus semi-submersible working in the Ichthys Field, Browse Basin offshore Australia. The firm turned to Duffy and McGovern due to its ability to supply the unit from stock at its Perth, Western Australia base, and carried out a full inspection visit before taking delivery.

"We have developed strong relationships with the majority of Australia’s major oil and gas exploration and production firms, building on Duffy and McGovern’s global reputation for reliability and high standard of service, and these new deals further enhance our position in the area," said Perth office leader Jonathon Silbert.

DMAS has also supplied Woodside Energy with an A60 fire-rated and DNV approved zone 1 engineering unit configured as a paleontological cabin, fitted with wet area and office facilities, for use in the Scott Reef Area off the coast of Broome, Western Australia.

Duffy and McGovern counts Singapore as one of three global hubs alongside its operations in Aberdeen in the UK, and at Broussard, Louisiana in the US where it operates under the name of parent firm HB Rentals. DMAS was acquired by HB Rentals owner Superior Energy Services in January 2007.
