Schlumberger has awarded PolyOil a six figure contract, one of the latter's largest contracts to date, for its Poly-Tector protector control lines, to be used in downhole completions on the Ormen Lange field on the Norwegian continental shelf. The sum has been awarded for two phases, to be delivered over a two year period. Three of the scheduled eight first phase completions have already been implemented.
An additional agreement with Shell and Schlumberger in the same field will see PolyOil supplying protectors from rig down to well depth, with the award of a £75,000 contract for the use of their Poly-Tector subsea umbilical clamps.
Calum Whitelaw, Director of PolyOil, said: "Our continued success in securing major contracts is a direct reflection of the distinct advantages of our Poly-Tector range of products in deepwater applications, such as our low friction control line protectors & our buoyant, lightweight umbilical protectors, which operators are increasingly recognizing.
"During the competitive bid process for this contract the Poly-Tector cable protector was subjected to and passed an intensive qualification test. This demonstrates the strength of our technical design which has played an important part in securing new contracts including the work in the Ormen Lange field," he continues.
"Ormen Lange is the second largest Norwegian gas field and the current biggest development in Norway. It is unique in its large bore profile, so this contract with Shell and Schlumberger is hugely important to us. I am certain that the success of this certification process within Shell and Schlumberger will open new doors for us in future collaborations with them."
Knut Hals, Completion Design & Operations, Ormen Lange Well Delivery Team, Shell, said: "The Poly-Tector cable protectors have performed excellently during the first Ormen Lange completion campaign. Their design and usability means that they are low-friction, robust and easy to handle and install. Another additional benefit was a reduction in HSE risk."
Serena Arif, Director of PolyOil, comments: "The fact that we can offer total protection for cased hole and open hole work, for intelligent completion projects in often arduous conditions, is our speciality and what sets us apart from our competitors."
Established in 2000, PolyOil designs and develops products for the oil and gas industry using pioneering polymer technology. The company's Poly-Tector range of products for the drilling, completions and subsea sectors, reduce friction, enhance safety, are light weight, corrosion-free and bring operational benefits as well as improving job success rates.
In August 2005 PolyOil was granted a UK patent for its Control Line Poly-Tector, for which it has a patent pending in Norway.
