IHS Acquires SDG Oil & Gas Consulting Practice
IHS Inc. has acquired the assets of Strategic Decision Group Corporation's Oil & Gas Consulting Practice (SDG O&G), a provider of strategic consulting services to leading enterprises in the global oil and gas industry, for $7.6 million in an all-cash transaction. SDG O&G will be managed as a service within Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), an IHS company.
"SDG O&G has provided consulting services to some of the largest clients of IHS," said Ron Mobed, president and chief operating officer of the energy segment of IHS. "It is another key addition to the portfolio of services we provide the energy industry offering critical insight that improves our clients' strategic decision-making and profitability."
Over the past 26 years, the SDG O&G Practice has served many of the world's leading energy firms with comprehensive strategic insights ranging from business unit and major capital project to overall corporate strategy, including functional strategy, portfolio management, and mergers, acquisitions and divestment support. SDG O&G services help to improve the strategic decision-making of senior executives as they seek to develop optimal strategies, mitigate risk and improve shareholder value. The company has employees in the United Kingdom, Houston, Palo Alto, CA and Cambridge, MA.
"SDG O&G is a recognized leader in strategy development and trusted source of advice that senior executives use to make critical business decisions," said Daniel Yergin, IHS executive vice president and chairman of CERA. "Adding the expertise of SDG O&G to that of CERA and IHS will help us enhance the quality of service and capabilities on which our clients have come to rely."
Greg Bean, partner and managing director of SDG O&G, said: "We are extremely pleased to join the IHS team. Our differentiated position in providing insight and clarity to decision makers will be enhanced by linkages with the global information and tools of IHS, and CERA's industry insights. We also have analytical tools and techniques that will help IHS continue to develop innovative decision-support tools."
