Offshore Worker Killed in North Sea
A man working on the BP-operated Gyda platform in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea was killed early Friday morning during a lifting operation on the pipe deck. The 29-year old worker was employed by Smedvig Offshore.
Investigators from the Rogaland police district and the Norwegian Oil Directorate headed to the scene Friday afternoon. No one else was injured in the accident. BP also sent a crisis team to the platform and will conduct an investigation of the accident.
BP is operator of the platform with a 61% interest; DONG holds a 34% interest and Norsk AEDC holds the remaining 5%.
