Bongo FPSO Runs Into Bad Weather

The newbuild FPSO, Bonga, has had to take cover in Rotterdam due to inclement weather. The FPSO was on its way to the Amec shipyard for integration and completion of the deck modules after a fourth-month trip from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

Three Global Towing Alliance tugs, SmitWijs Singapore of SmitWijs Towage, John Ross of Smit and De Da of COESS towed the Bonga FPSO at an average of five knots during its voyage. While on its voyage, the Bonga made history as the largest object ever to be towed through the Suez Canal.

Work on the FPSO is expected to be completed next year and then Bonga will head to Nigera for Shell.
