The five-year, approximately NOK 150-million agreement covers the deployment of AGR PipeTech's in-line inspection tools and services. The tools include the PipeScan and WeldScan systems that have set new pipeline inspection standards within the oil and gas industry.
The PII Pipeline solutions business of GE Oil & Gas provides pipeline inspection and integrity services. AGR said that the partnership will provide a platform for significant growth in the use of AGR PipeTech's existing technology as well as new tools under development in its Bergen design and development center.
AGR PipeTech has already collaborated with GE Oil & Gas on a number of pipeline inspection projects in Africa, Europe and Asia. "This new partnership agreement will take our co-operative arrangement to a much higher level," said Johan Moller Warmedal, Executive Vice President, AGR Field Operations. "We are delighted to be working with GE in this way--it is a tremendous endorsement of our technology and services."
Under the arrangement, AGR will provide inspection services and project management for pipeline inspection projects up to 10 kilometers. PII will undertake inspection for larger projects, as well as providing data processing and analyses for the full range of projects.
AGR PipeTech's PipeScan system measures the thickness of walls, identifying imperfections using ultrasonic measurements. The WeldScan system works on the PipeScan platform, performing radial scanning over the pipe circumference in order to reveal possible imperfections in girth welds or base material.
