EPL reported that first production in the field has been established from the recently drilled and completed ST 46 #4 (A-2) acceleration well, made possible by the fast tracking of the newly installed ST 46 4-pile platform. The Company will optimize the rate of the ST 46 #4 (A-2) well over the next couple of weeks.
The Company has accelerated the production of the ST 46 discovery area following the recent success of the ST 46 #3 well that reached total depth of 20,395 feet earlier this year. The ST 46 #3 well added new reserves and had better than expected results in the shallow, development section of the hole, with a total of approximately 250 feet of natural gas pay, and also encountered an approximate 100 feet of apparent pay encountered in four exploratory sands in the deeper hole section. The Company will production test the deeper section of the ST 46 #3 well during the second half of this year.
Richard A. Bachmann, EPL's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "I want to commend our operations staff for the excellent job in getting the ST 46 #4 well drilled and completed and the facility designed and installed in record speed, both ahead of schedule and under budget. The brand new facility is designed to handle up to 75 Mmcf/d in the current configuration with additional well slots available to drill remaining prospective sand targets in this field, both shallow and deep. With the commencement of high rate production from the ST 46 #4 well, the soon to be tested ST 46 #3 deeper section, and additional exploration opportunities yet to be tested, this is truly becoming an area of increasing importance to our Company."
