ENSCO Responds to Speculation on New-Build Program

ENSCO

ENSCO International Incorporated confirmed a published report that, as part of an ongoing evaluation process, the Company has contacted several shipyards to determine the most cost-effective and operationally efficient design for its next generation of premium jackup rig.

Carl Thorne, ENSCO's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We began a process some two years ago to evaluate and develop the next generation of jackup rig to ultimately replace our workhorse equipment, much like the approach that has been taken with regard to our deep water semisubmersible rig design, wherein we have the next generation, including working drawings and indicative pricing, on the shelf. We have conducted a thorough evaluation of alternative jackup designs, refined selected designs to meet our specific requirements, prepared working drawings, and ultimately solicited indicative pricing, so as to have a preferred design, together with detailed costing, available to constitute a basis for long term planning. We have, however, no specific plans at this time to independently undertake speculative new construction."
