Maersk Newbuild to Drill Goldeneye Wells

Maersk Contractors has been awarded a contract to drill five wells on the Goldeneye Field in the UK sector of the North Sea beginning in August 2003. Shell, the operator of the field, will use the new ultra harsh environment jackup Maersk XL-1. The Maersk XL-1 is an MSC CJ70-150 MC jackup rated to work in water depths of 492 feet and has a rated drilling depth of 30,000 feet.
Shell is the operator of Block 14/29 and of the Goldeneye Field with 52.5% interest. ExxonMobil's Esso operating unit holds 39%, Lasmo 4.5%, Paladin 3%, and Veba 1%.
