Weatherford Evaluation, Drilling and Intervention will take delivery of the trio of 16' x 8' foot units from Duffy and McGovern Accommodation Services' (DMAS) Aberdeen manufacturing base.
The DNV-approved zone 1, A60 fire-rated engineering units meet the latest SOLAS and IMO regulations and are fitted with ATEX-certified components, pressurisation monitoring and control systems and fire and gas detection technology.
Duffy and McGovern's manufacturing capabilities are internationally renowned, with its sought after build-for-sale and rental fleet covering all of the world's oil and gas exploration and production provinces.
Oilfield services provider Weatherford is expected to receive the new-build units in July (2007), for use in its operations in the UKCS and beyond.
The firm has also taken two further DMAS units on an ad-hoc hire basis. The two 16 x 8 foot Zone 1 DNV technicians' cabins were mobilised from stock at the company's base at Dusavik in Norway, and will remain on hire for a minimum two months in a deal worth £20,000.
Craig Russell, commercial director for Duffy and McGovern, says: "Weatherford required a complete design and build package when they approached us to construct these three engineering modules which our team are able to provide.
"The manufacturing facility at our headquarters in Aberdeen is capable of constructing and fitting our standard engineering module design to clients' exact specifications, which is a key requirement of firms operating in the global oil and gas market.
"Weatherford also required two further cabins for immediate use, at short notice, in the North Sea which we were able to fulfil from our fleet in Norway.
"Our continued fleet expansion in all our global hubs, which was boosted by our acquisition by HB Rentals earlier this year, means we are able to respond at short notice to customer demand, be it for rental or custom design and build."
Duffy and McGovern, which was acquired by HB Rentals, a subsidiary of Superior Energy Services, in January 2007, will provide full maintenance support to Weatherford's three new engineering cabins on an initial three-year agreement, with options to extend.
