Unocal Resumes Operations on Trident Prospect

Unocal reports that the Discoverer Spirit drill ship has resumed drilling of the second appraisal well at the Trident deepwater Gulf of Mexico discovery in the Gulf of Mexico after a 15-day delay caused by storms Isidore and Lili. The Discoverer Spirit had spudded the well on Sept. 17. The company expects the well to take 45 to 60 days to drill.

The new well is located on Alaminos Canyon block 947, approximately two miles southwest of the original discovery well on block 903, which was announced in July 2001. The first appraisal well was completed on block 903 in January 2002. The Trident prospect area covers seven blocks in Alaminos Canyon. Unocal is operator and has a 59.5 percent working interest in the prospect. Co-venturers include ChevronTexaco with 15%; Ocean Energy with 12.75%; Agip with 8.5% and ConocoPhillips with 4.25%.
