Ministry to Showcase Offshore Round in London, Long Beach

Barbados' energy and environment ministry will showcase the government's planned offshore oil and gas exploration bidding round in London and Long Beach, California, a ministry energy official told BNamericas.

The ministry will participate at the International Prospect & Property Expo (APPEX) in London from March 20-22 and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists' (AAPG) annual convention and exhibition in Long Beach from April 1-4, the official said.

The bidding round's timetable could be released during these events, said the official, adding the goal still is to launch the process this quarter.

The official said work to put together information regarding the blocks that will be put out to tender should wrap up in two weeks.

There is no offshore E&P in Barbados underway and the Barbados National Oil Company (BNOC) produces upward of 1,000b/d from onshore fields. BNOC sends the crude to Trinidad & Tobago to be refined, after which it is brought back to Barbados.

The 1,000b/d represents roughly 15% of Barbados' fuel requirement with the remainder imported.
