BP Rumored To Have Struck Oil Offshore Angola

BP is currently exploring for oil offshore Angola on Block 31 using the semisubmersible, Leiv Eiriksson. According to the drilling contractor, Ocean Rig, the well is undergoing testing, including burning of oil extracted from the well. A BP spokesperson said it was premature to say if a discovery had been made, adding that the company was "evaluating it". The well is located in approximately 6,693 feet of water.

BP is the operator of Block 31 with 26.7% interest. Partners include ExxonMobil with 25%, Sonangol with 20%, Statoil with 13.3%, Marathon with 10%, TotalFinaElf with the remaining 5%.
