Brazil's national hydrocarbons regulator ANP plans to offer exploratory licenses for blocks in eight basins in the ninth exploration licensing round scheduled for the first half of this year, ANP said in a statement.

The shortlisted basins are the well-known Campos and Espirito Santo and the relatively new frontier basin of Santos in the country's southeastern region.

The regulator also will carry out studies in the lesser-known basins of Para-Maranhao, Parnaiba, Pernambuco-Paraiba, Potiguar and Reconcavo.

The classification of the blocks will be the same as the 2006 licensing round, the statement said.

The areas are designated high potential, new frontier and mature.
