Parker Drilling to Spud Pohokuro South-01 Well in September

The Pohokura South-01 sidetrack appraisal well into the southern end of the Pohokura gas-condensate field (PEP 38459) in offshore Taranaki is scheduled to start in early September from the onshore site north of New Plymouth where the Pohokura South-1 well was drilled in early 2001.

Operator Shell Todd Oil Services Ltd was, in early August, moving the Parker Drilling Rig 188, which recently drilled Huinga-1B, to the coastal Pohokura site near the Methanex Motunui methanol complex.

The scheduled spud date at the site is expected to be early September. The sidetrack well will be deviated out under the Tasman Sea into the Pohokura permit.

The aim of the sidetrack well is to ascertain the southern extent of the field and further evaluate the geological and petrophysical properties of the area.
