Industry Experts to Speak at Opening Session of 2002 SPE Annual Conference
A high-powered panel of key industry leaders, led by Jean-Luc Vermeulen, President of Exploration-Production for TotalFinaElf, and Conference General Chairperson, take center stage in the Opening General Session at the 2002 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. The session, titled From Local Expertise to Global Experience: Is Technology Exportable? is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, September 30th at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A.
Panelists in the session include Stephen Farris, President and COO, Apache Corp.; John Darley, Director, Shell Technology E&P; Andrew Gould, President and COO, Schlumberger Ltd.; and Syanga Abilio, Executive Vice President, Sonangol.
The Opening General Session focuses on how oil and gas companies will transfer developed technological expertise from mature areas, such as North America and the North Sea, into less mature areas that require the application of these technologies and future advances to optimize resources. The moderator and panelists, representing diverse sectors of the exploration and production (E&P) industry, will discuss such questions as:
- What lessons have been learned in the maturation of the oil and gas industry and which solutions are transferable?
- To what extent can locally acquired know-how be exported and adapted to new conditions?
- How will the industry deal with the specific constraints and demands of producing countries, and how effective is “technology transfer” really?
- How can companies elevate the level of skills and human resources needed, including the ability to recruit, train, and motivate the new generation of engineers as the industry becomes more global?
This keynote session sets the stage for more than 360 presentations on the latest advances in exploring for and producing oil and gas. More than 200 companies will complement the conference program with exhibits on their most innovative products and services.
