Fire Breaks Out on Gulf of Mexico Jackup

A fire erupted at 9:00 a.m. local time on Diamond Offshore's jackup, Ocean King, which was working in Grand Isle 93 for BP in the Gulf of Mexico. A spokesman at the United States Coast Guard has said that all rig personnel have been evacuated safely to another company-owned rig in the area and there were no injuries reported.

The fire, which was due to a well control incident, has been put out. A detailed damage assessment will be commenced as soon as it is safe to board the vessel, which may be as early as this afternoon. A full evaluation of any damage or related repairs may take several days to complete.
