Mediator Called in to Settle Norwegian Oil Workers Strike

The Norwegian State mediator has called the parties for mediation on August 5th. The Norwegian oil workers strike has been ongoing for a month. Leif Sande, NOPEF president, has said he hopes a settlement will be achieved.

The strike was called earlier this month by the Norwegian Oil and Petrochemical Union over service workers' salaries and benefits. The workers would like their compensation to be more inline with the compensation received by other offshore workers. A salary increase of 2.9% was offer by the Norwegian Oil Industry Association, however NOPEF is requesting an increase of 6.5%.

There are workers on strike from Schlumberger, MI-Norge, Maritime Well Service, Baker Hughes Atlas, Baker Hughes Inteq and Halliburton.
