Kirchner, Provinces Ink Gas Pipeline Expansion Agreement

Argentina's President Nestor Kirchner and the governors of Mendoza and San Juan provinces, Julio Cobos and Jose Luis Gioja, have signed an agreement to create a trust to finance the expansion of a natural gas pipeline, Mendoza's provincial government reported.

The 65.5mn-peso (US$21mn) trust will help expand the Beazley-La Dormida pipeline's transport capacity 20% to 8.1Mm3/d, the statement said.

Mendoza will provide 12.5mn pesos to the trust, San Juan 12mn pesos, wholesale gas distributor Albanessi 18mn pesos and Banco Nacion 23mn pesos.

Works, which are due to start next year, entail a 30km, 24-inch diameter parallel stretch from Beazley to La Dormida, and the revamp of the La Paz compression plant.

Gas transport company TGN, which holds a concession to transport gas in that part of the country, will carry out the works.
