Brendan O'Mahony has over 20 years' experience in logistics, the last five in the oil and gas industry, working for Conoco Phillips and most recently at Nexen Petroleum, where he was Logistics Team Leader. Prior to this he worked in mainstream logistics in sectors including retail and road transport operations.
Mike Porter, commenting on Mr O'Mahony's appointment, said: "We were delighted to get Brendan on board. I have known him for several years and have seen how he has applied his general management skills and experience in warehousing, distribution and logistics into our industry sector. He is a proven leader and already a respected member of the oil and gas logistics community and this will allow him to hit the ground running."
"He will take on operational responsibility for our supply bases in Aberdeen, Edzell, Great Yarmouth, Heysham and Shetland, which will include delivering our existing business targets for each of these sites and leading the operational teams within the UK."
The restructuring sees Murdo MacIver become Commercial Director, looking after procurement, contracts, accounts and finance functions, while Doug Crighton takes on the role of Deputy Managing Director, responsible for HSEQ, HR and various business improvement projects. Mike Porter remains Managing Director, taking the lead on business development, including the identification of further acquisitions, adding to the existing range of services, securing new operating sites, and winning new business.
Brendan's appointment coincides with an investment of £1.2m by SBS Logistics in two new quayside cranes in Aberdeen – a Liebherr LHM100, high-cab dockside crane at Waterloo Quay, and a Demag 120-tonne mobile crane at Pocra Quay.
Mike Porter added: "As previously announced, growth within our existing business and the acquisition of Seaforth Maritime will increase our turnover to around £70m in 2006 and as a result we have added 175 staff to our previous workforce of 215. This step change in the size of the business has meant a reorganization of our management structure to ensure that all major functional areas are supported and that we have in place a robust management team to take the company forward.
"The creation of a new Director's post with responsibility for the operational side of the business, frees up Doug and Murdo to focus on some of the key areas of a growing, successful organization, such as Finance, Contract Management, HSEQ and HR."
SBS provides integrated logistics support to blue-chip clients in the UK oil and gas and other industries from its bases in Lerwick, Aberdeen, Edzell, Heysham and Great Yarmouth. Services include quayside operations, road transport and crane hire, property rental and materials management services, fuel storage and decommissioning.
