Venezuela Appoints New PDVSA Gas President

Venezuela's government has appointed Felix Rodriguez as president of PDVSA Gas, state oil firm PDVSA's natural gas subsidiary, outgoing PDVSA Gas president Anibal Rosas told BNamericas.

The appointment has not been published in the country's official gazette and staff at Rodriguez's office would not comment on the news. Rosas did not say why he was leaving the position.

Rosas presided over a phase of expansion for Venezuela's gas industry in the aftermath of the 2002-03 oil strike, when gas output nearly stopped. Production now stands at nearly 7Bf3/d (194Mm3/d).

Rodriguez, who was promoted from the post of PDVSA Gas VP, said in an interview earlier this year that he favors purchasing a stake in Ypergas, Venezuela's largest private natural gas company.
