Technip Orders Accommodation Modules from Duffy & McGovern

Duffy & McGovern Accommodation Services has secured the first advanced order for its new fleet of US accommodation modules from Technip Offshore.

The leading provider of subsea pipelay and subsea construction vessels has reserved three of Duffy & McGovern's new eight-man sleeper modules, which are still under construction, in anticipation of its requirement to man-up the MV Deep Blue in the Gulf of Mexico in February 2007.

Three of the accommodation firm's fleet of 20 new modules will go on hire to Technip for a six month period from February 2007 in a deal worth over $80,000.

The new fleet of eight and twelve-man cabins is being constructed for dedicated use in the US and will become available for rental in November 2006. Duffy & McGovern is investing $4 million building the fleet in response to growing demand for accommodation in the region, as evidenced by this unprecedented early contract award.

Vice president of US operations for Duffy & McGovern, Glenn Aguilar, explains: "Duffy & McGovern specializes in providing temporary accommodation cabins, for immediate short to medium term projects all over the world. That fact that Technip is already considering its requirements for 2007 is an indication of the predicted level of demand for accommodation and is a good sign that productivity will continue to be strong in the Gulf.

"By investing now in new modules to expand our fleet we are ensuring that we will be able to meet the future demand for offshore accommodation solutions in the US."

Duffy & McGovern operates more than 250 accommodation modules across the globe from three main hubs in New Orleans, Aberdeen and Singapore and is the only firm able to offer fully compliant SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and IMO (International Maritime Organisation) living quarters in the Gulf of Mexico region. The project to construct 20 new modules, which exceed the toughest offshore regulations, represents a second multi-million dollar investment in the US by DMAS in just two years, adding to a similar fleet constructed in 2005.

The A-60 rated units comply with the latest ABS and US Coastguard regulations and are SOLAS and IMO compliant. The cabins are being fitted out in Alabama by Jamestown Metal and will be based in Belle Chasse, New Orleans for quick distribution to oil and gas locations in the Americas, including Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Brazil and offshore Canada.
